In his first term as a state representative, Steve Winter has worked collaboratively with colleagues on the issues that matter most to New Haven, Hamden, and Connecticut. Whether it's advocating for clean and affordable energy, growing housing and affordable housing, increasing funding for education and youth services and improved literacy instruction, or a more progressive tax policy, Steve speaks up for you.
Steve's approach is rooted in his experience as an advocate and a New Haven Alder. Steve Winter moved to New Haven in 2007. After being falsely arrested in 2010, he organized with others who experienced police misconduct to enact police reform. That led him to public service, organizing for affordable housing and voting rights.
As an Alder for five years, Steve increased resources for public education and youth services. He took action on affordable housing, safer streets, and climate change. He now serves as Executive Director of Climate and Sustainability in Mayor Elicker's office, leading environmental initiatives that meet residents' immediate needs.
Steve is grateful for the opportunity to represent Hamden and New Haven in Hartford and ready to serve for another two years.
